This is an advanced sheep course, to improve veterinary knowledge in trace element and mineral nutrition for sheep & beef farms and the principles of undertaking whole farm mineral audits – Fiona Lovatt & Peter Bone, nutrition, fionma lovatt, peter bone

Subjects include:

• Why are trace elements & minerals important & in what context?
• Macro minerals (Ca, P, Mg, Na, S, K, Fe) & their relevance to forage-based beef and sheep systems
• Supply of minerals through the year & the different sources available to stock
• Trace Elements – cobalt, selenium, iodine, zinc, copper (including thiomolybdate issues and toxicity)
• Introduction to Mineral Auditing
• Farm visit
